The best Land Based Whale Watching in the World

Nowhere else in the world are you able to breathe champagne air, sip on a cup of coffee or a glass of fine wine together with a fabulous meal whilst watching Southern Right Whales from the shore. Hermanus attracts thousands of visitors from all over the globe each year from June till early December to experience these gentle giants and the awe-inspiring natural beauty that our town has to offer.

Getting Here

The town of Hermanus forms part of the Cape Whale Coast Route and is situated within the Overberg region of the Western Cape along the R42. Its close proximity to Cape Town (±120km) and Cape Town International Airport(±100km) make Hermanus an attractive vacation destination for all.

Beaches

There are many wonderful beaches to be enjoyed along our beautiful coastline. From Fisherhaven in the West to Voelklip in the East you are sure to find a beach that will fill your activity needs. Be it lazing in the sun or surfing for fun, Hermanus has a beach for everyone.

Golf Courses

Hermanus Golf Course and the Arabella Golf Course offer a wonderful experience to golfers of all skill levels. Arabella is only a 20min drive from Hermanus and both these courses have been rated in the  top 100 golf courses in South Africa in previous years.

Nature Reserves & Botanical Gardens

Hermanus is home to Fernkloof Nature Reserve which offers wonderful walking trails and the perfect surroundings to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. If this is not enough to sooth the soul and calm the senses, there are a variety of other reserves and botanical gardens in the near vicinity.

Fernkloof, Grootbos, Walker Bay and Vogelgat Nature Reserves as well as the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens offer varied landscapes, Fauna, Flora, birding and hiking opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast and nature lover alike.
