Waterkloof Wine Estate
Waterkloof Wine Estate is situated on the slopes of the Helderberg in Somerset West with the most spectacular view over False Bay. The estate is owned by a hands-on dedicated “entrepreneur-cum-winemaker” and, in keeping with the inspiring environment, the philosophy is to produce wines as naturally as possible. The environment is a testament to their farming practices.
Winemaking at Waterkloof follows a minimalist approach with little human interference in the pressing and fermentation process. The fruit quality is of paramount importance rather than the manipulation of the process to speed up fermentation or to add additives to artificially enhance taste.
Modern, yet simple, with spectacular vistas, Waterkloof’s signature restaurant, perched high on the slopes of the Schaapenberg, is taking dining in the Winelands to new heights. The restaurant is housed in a 10 metre high glass promontory, which flows into the sleek tasting lounge with its state-of-the-art gravitational cellar. The restaurant is set against the majestic backdrop of Waterkloof’s amphitheatre of vineyards and the full expanse of False Bay. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday and can be booked for weddings and functions.
The estate is dedicated to conserving the unique biodiversity of the area – join a guided hike or horse trail through the vineyards and the fynbos ending with a tour of the very special cellar with open top red wine fermentation vats, a dinner or lunch in the restaurant combined with wine tasting while taking in the spectacular scenery. This is an experience not to be missed.
Wine tasting takes place daily from 10h00 to 17h00 and cellar tours can be arranged by appointment.
