Schapenberg MTB Trail

Overview

The Trail starts and finishes at Ongegund Lodge and Conference Centre. The Black Route on the farm offers three additional loops (two serious climbs and two technical single tracks) to the Red route. The Red route includes technical single tracks, but has fewer climbs than Black route. The Yellow route has a lot fewer climbs than Red and the single track is easy. The green route has no single tracks and easy climbs.

Ongegund is located on the Old Sir Lowry’s Pass road that can be accred via the The Sir Lowry’s Pass Village offramp from the N2, drive through the village, cross the railway line, shortly after turning left on Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road you will find Ongegund on your right hand side.

EASY MODERATE DIFFICULT EXTREME

Green Route 4km – Perfect for beginners. 3 moderate climbs totaling 80 meters (2 short and 1 long) Duration 30 min – 1 hour

Yellow Route: 15km – Suitable for intermediate riders. 4 moderate climbs totaling 230 meters (2 short, 2 long). Easy to moderate single tracks. Duration 2 – 3 hours

Red Route: 23km – Tougher route for experienced riders. 4 moderate climbs, 3 steep climbs and 1 very steep climb, totaling 520 meters. 3 technical and 3 moderate single tracks. Duration 2.5 – 3.5 hours

Black Route: 27km Tough, for competitive riders. 4 moderate climbs, 2 steep climbs and 5 very steep climbs totaling 730 meters. 7 technical and 2 moderate single tracks. Duration 3.5 – 4.5 hours.

Permits

Permits can be obtained at Ongegund Lodge and Conference Centre and the fees will be ploughed back into the trails for trail maintenance and extension.The trails are open to the public seven days a week from 08h00 to 17h00. A day permit allows cyclists unlimited access to the trails for the day.
