Head To Pitstop Lodge On Clarence Drive
HEAD TO PITSTOP LODGE ON CLARENCE DRIVE
A kaleidoscope of colours, comfortably close to the natural wonders of Mother Nature and an extraordinary experience is what you can expect when you enter the newly established bed and breakfast cabins at PitStop.
Significantly named Wolseley, Morris and Austin – after famous vintage car brands – the accommodation venues offers you the best of both worlds. The ocean, rocky mountains and large shady trees around the property give guests of the newly opened venue the feeling of being one with nature, but creature comforts one is accustomed to are certainly not lacking, as the cabins have been well equipped with all the frills and thrills needed for your stay. Its perfect location, nestled between the ocean and mountains along the R44, makes the venue one that should be on every adventurer and traveller’s bucket list.
Apart from the wonderful new accommodation feature, PitStop is also home to the fabulous Grille Shack, which promises more than just delectable cuisine on your journey to discovery.
As the venue’s name rightly suggests, it’s a place where you and your family can make a much needed pitstop on your journey or just break away from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives. Here you can have a quick bite to eat, indulge in a delectable sweet treat, lounge on the sprawling lawns and bright red loungers or have a drink with friends in the shady outdoor area.
The loungers are called Adirondack chairs, which were first created by Thomas Lee around 1903, following his futile search for comfortable outdoor furniture for his country lodge in Westport, New York, near the Adirondack mountain region. PitStop is a place designed with passion and precision, aimed at satisfying the needs of especially those travelling on Clarence Drive.
The venue’s decor speaks volumes of places visited and trips undertaken on dusty gravel roads and deserted old structures, of antique vehicles once cruising our streets.
This is captured through the use of rustic photos, pictures, number plates, vehicle parts and road signs . . . This theme has been woven through the decor of the accommodation cabins as well. Its interior was designed by the brilliant Sarah Ord. When you enter any of the three cabins you are immediately enchanted by and drawn to the seanamarena, a traditional Sotho blanket, perfectly placed at the edge of the queen-sized bed. The very sight brings back a nostalgic feel of a trip to a neighbouring country, a place known for its rich culture and friendly people.
A bright-coloured couch brings a touch of modern chic to the “apartment” and invites you to lounge in style, while the wallpaper of hammers, screwdrivers and other tools –designed by the award-winning Robin Sprong Studio – again underscores the more engineered mechanical style of the overall venue.
The en-suite bathroom is upmarket, with all the necessary comforts one would expect of a top-quality bed and breakfast venue. It is spacious with large mirrors adding a special classy touch.
And for the workaholics who cannot stand going an evening without working, a workstation has also been set up for visitors to plug in a laptop or tablet, connect to the Wi-Fi and catch up on your work before enjoying the rest of the offerings of the venue. In addition to the interestingly selected features, each cabin also boasts an outdoor shower that really adds to your experience. It’s also the ideal place for one to feel at one with Mother Nature and completely relax, particularly after a hiking session, offered to all guests of the luxury cabins at an additional price of R160.
The package comprises a hike permit in-season when Krystal Pools is open to the public, cup of coffee and celebratory drink after the hike. As the entire venue is 100% offthe- grid, you will never have to worry about any load-shedding interruptions. Safety and security is also ensured through the deployment of guards around-theclock.
The Grille Shack @ PitStop offers a wide menu for breakfast and lunch throughout the week and supper on Fridays and Saturdays, so one can satisfy your every craving. There’s nachos, ribs, gourmet burgers, hot wings, jalapeno poppers, deep fried macaroni and cheese, salads, seafood and much more freshly prepared to entice any foodie.
On the breakfast menu, which is included in your stay at PitStop Lodge, one can choose from a variety of dishes, such as eggs benedict with a Kaapse twist, pancakes, granola bowls and traditional breakfasts made The Grille Shack way.
