Suspected thief arrested in S’West
Police arrested a suspect in Somerset West on Monday afternoon (28 January 2019), in connection with the alleged theft of copper pipes from a business in the area.
A manager on duty at the engineering business in Cyclone Street contacted Fidelity ADT late on Monday afternoon, reporting that a suspicious looking person was spotted moving around the premises.
“When one of our armed response officers arrived, the manager pointed out the alleged suspect. The man was searched, and copper pipes were found in his possession which had allegedly been stolen from the business,” says Verena Hulme, Cape Town north district manager at Fidelity ADT.
The SAPS were called to the scene, to take the suspect into custody on a charge of theft.
Hulme’s advice to business owners in Somerset West is to make sure their security systems are working optimally, and tested regularly.
“Wear and tear on security systems is a reality and maintenance, upgrades and replacements are a necessity. Contact your security company today if you have any doubt about the system installed to look after your business. Also make sure your staff know the correct contact details for your armed response company, so that there is no delay when they need to call for help,” she says.
