Join the Helderberg Eco-Rangers’ Fynbos Monitoring Project
Join the Helderberg Eco-Rangers in monitoring the rehabilitation of the Fynbos in the Helderberg Nature reserve where the recent burns have taken place.
This project is suitable for all Fynbos fanatics, nature enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys the incredible and diverse plant kingdom on our doorstep.
This will be an official Fynbos monitoring project being carried out in the burnt area behind the Environmental Education centre at the Helderberg Nature Reserve. The project will run over the course of the year and meetings will take place on Saturday mornings from 10h00 till 12h00, twice per month during school terms.
This is an opportunity not to be missed by those interested in Fynbos. Those who participate will build up a portfolio, learn about the role fire has in Fynbos, learn how to take photos to document the site, learn to identify different plants, use iSpot to share with the scientific community, build insects traps, identify insects, build reptile and mammal traps for monitoring purposes and much more.
This project is suitable for adults and children (age 12+). Younger children (8-10 years) will be considered so long as they are keen and committed.
Each participant needs a camera or cell phone suitable for taking photographs for recording purposes.
The first meeting takes place this Saturday – 18th April 2015.
