Junior adventure seekers set to shine at XTERRA Kids Race
Junior adventure seekers can experience the action of the largest XTERRA in the world when they toe the line on the water’s edge of the Eikenhof Dam on Saturday, 23 February 2019 ready to partake in the fun-filled XTERRA SA Kids Race.
A premium off-road triathlon, the XTERRA Kids Race includes a swimming, mountain bike and trail run discipline and is the perfect introduction to the sport of XTERRA. There are three categories to choose from when entering, with junior XTERRA Warriors ranging from 6 to 15 years of age: 1. 6-8 years: Swim: 60m; MTB: 2km; Trail Run: 600m, 2. 9-11 years: Swim: 100m; MTB: 3km; Trail Run: 1.5km and 3. 12-15 years: Swim: 250m; MTB: 5km; Trail Run: 2.5km
“The XTERRA Kids Race is always the source of much excitement,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports. “It is heartwarming to see moms, dads, grandparents and siblings supporting the junior XTERRA warriors from start to finish. In 2019 the event will be hosted on the Saturday after the XTERRA Lite which means junior XTERRA Warriors (whose parents will take part in the XTERRA Lite) will get to watch mom and dad in action before experiencing the fun themselves. We look forward to hosting two fun-filled days for the entire family out in Grabouw.”
In 2018 the XTERRA Kids Race was really well received.
Nick Etherton (age 8) took part in his third XTERRA Kids Race on the day. “XTERRA is fun. I really like winning.”
Caleb Hunter (age 7) is no stranger to the XERRA Kids Race. “My three brothers also took part today. I like running. The mountain biking was fun, but hard. I really enjoy XTERRA.”
Klara du Plessis (age 7) had a fun time on route. “The event was fun. I enjoyed the mountain-biking the most. I’ll definitely come back next year.”
According to Ethan Hunter (age 11), the XTERRA Kids race isn’t too hard. “XTERRA is fun. I like it because it isn’t insanely hard. I like the mountain-biking the most.”
Andrew Bosch (age 14) travelled all the way from Port Elizabeth to take part in the XTERRA Kids Race. “My dad took part in the XTERRA Full. XTERRA is amazing. I love the mountain-biking the most. XTERRA is the best event ever. I definitely want to take part next year again.”
