TAKE NOTE: SUPPLEMENTS DO NOT REPLACE A BALANCED DIET!! It is extra because our food is so depleted of vitamins and minerals.
Always take a multivitamin in the morning and away from a meal.
(Reason: It supplies energy for the day and should not compete for absorption.)
1. A Multivitamin is a necessity every day. Neither vitamins nor minerals should be taken in isolation. Vitamins and minerals need to be taken in combination for better results.
(Reason: The one needs the other for absorption You can deplete eg. Vit-A by taking zinc by itself, or magnesium by taking only calcium.)
Vitamins are like a chain, if one link is missing, the chain cannot fulfil its duty.
A multivitamin should contain fish oil to ensure absorption of fat soluble vitamins.
2. Always take Calcium + Magnesium , and Omega 3 + 6 (6 in smaller dose) in addition to your multivitamin to ensure good health. In South Africa we need higher dose of Magnesium (reason soil is poorer in Magnesium)
3. Be aware of supplements containing Vit-K.
(Reason: If you have a healthy gut, you will produce your own Vit-K. Additional could because blood clots.)
4. If extra Vit C is taken, Split Vitamin-C into 3 dosages of 300mg per day.
(Reason: Vit C being water soluble, it passes through the system in about 4 hours. When fighting infection, take 600mg of Vit C, 2 hourly for 3 days.
Smokers need extra Vit C .( Reason Nicotine destroys Vit C in our bodies.)
5. Anybody taking cholesterol medication should take 50mg, Q10 per day.
(Reason:The medication blocks the production of Q10 in the body and Q10 is healthy heart muscle)
6. Today a daily dose of Pro-biotics is needed, not just when taking Anti-biotics.
Supplements need to be taken with adequate amounts of water.
