2013 Gordon’s Bay Leapfrog Race a huge success
The third Leapfrog 21km road race took place this past weekend and is considered to have been the best one yet.
Kevin Wearing one of the organizers from Leapfrog, this year’s race was bigger & better with the number of entries having grown by 200%
The increase of numbers can be attributed to the face that Western Province Athletics gave the race Western Province Championship status, which attracted better runners than in the past.
Results
The men’s record was shattered from 01:09:23 to 01:08:13 by Pumlani Nxusani from Nedbank WP. Second was Hein Camphor from New Balance with a time of 01:09:02. The bronze medal went to Ngywendu Mziwonke from Itheko for his time of 01:09:43
The first place in the women’s category went to Lena Lotter from Adidas with her time of 01:21:16. Thembi Baloyi from Tshwane UT took home the silver medal with her time of 01:22:47 and the third place went to Danette Smith from New Balance in a time of 01:26:10
5km Fun Run
The 5km fun run had a record number of entries this year. The 405 entries included athletes, moms, dads, grannies, and even a couple of babies in prams joined in.
This event is surely becoming a “must do” event in the Helderberg
