THIRSTI AFRICANX 2021 routes announced!
“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”
Stillwater Sports is excited to announce the routes of the 11th edition of the THIRSTI AFRICANX Trailrun that will take place at the Houw Hoek Hotel, in the Western Cape, over the weekend of 26 – 28 March 2021.
South Africa’s premier three-day stage trail run, the THIRSTI AFRICANX Trailrun will see teams of two trail running enthusiasts (male/female/mixed) battling it out on a route varying in distances each day. Each stage will feature a different route that is guaranteed to keep things exciting while leaving runners in awe.
“Paul Cluver Wine Estate has always been a firm favourite of the AFRICANX Trailrun,” says Michael Meyer, founder of the event and Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “This stage will definitely set the tone for a fun-filled weekend of trail running. Starting at the picturesque Paul Cluver Amphitheatre, Stage 1 highlights sections of the stunning Estate trails before heading back towards Houw Hoek, traversing a number of private farms in the process. If you love running sweeping single tracks that are accompanied by spectacular views, you will love this stage.”
“Stage 2 will see runners lining up at the picturesque Wildekrans Wine Estate,” continues Meyer. “Including sections that go through Wildekrans Wine Estate, Botriver Farm, Beaumont Wine Estate and Kat Pas before finishing at the Houw Hoek Hotel, Stage 2 is the ‘Queen Stage’ with the longest distance, most climbing and most technical trails. The first 18km on Wildekrans is a real treat and a perfect way to get warmed up. After Beaumont Wine Estate things will start to get interesting as you climb up to the iconic hiking trail that undulates above Bot River Farm towards the Houw Hoek Hotel on a technical trail that crosses rivers and provides some of the best views of the weekend. The reward will always outweigh the challenge.”
“The third and final stage will also be the AFRICANX’s much anticipated ‘Dress Up Day’,” confirms Meyer. “Starting at the Houw Hoek Farm Stall, the Stage 3 route will boast sections of the magnificent Lebanon Trails, which are new to AFRICANX, before going through a culvert under the N2. From here the finish line at Houw Hoek is in sight and emotions will start to rise as the 3 days draw to a close. Don’t forget to dress up. There is no specific theme, instead runners are encouraged to let their creativity reign. Enjoy the third and final stage to the fullest, take in the views and let nature give you one last run for your money!”
