Opening of the Sunset Concert Season with Koos Kombuis
On 9 December, well-known artist Koos Kombuis will open the Sunset Concert Season that takes place at the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Koos is something of an icon among South Africans, not only among the Afrikaans-speaking community, but for the entire spectrum of our rainbow nation. His humour and style also appeal to the large German community who attended last year’s performance.
Koos is the consummate entertainer. His musical style is folky and raw: he cites Bob Dylan and Neil Young, as well as Beatles George Harrison and John Lennon, as musical influences. He is considered one of the best lyricists in South African music. One of his most popular hits, Lisa se Klavier, has been covered by Laurika Rauch and The Parlotones, and has been translated into English, Dutch and Portuguese.
Koos is also an author and a columnist for several South African publications; he is known for his sharp satirical style, never shying away from tackling even the holiest of holy cows: he can also carry his readers from fits of hysterical giggles to the brink of tears. We think Koos will do that here in Helderberg too.
Tickets are available from Tixsa.co.za, at the Visitors’ Centre of the Helderberg Nature Reserve, or at the gate on the day of the concert for cash.
