Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland Festival 2012
The Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland Festival will once again transform our quaint little village of Gordon’s Bay, into a spectacular Fairy Wonderland with the Festival of Lights spanning for an entire month from 22 June until 23 July 2012.
The Winter Wonderland Festival Celebrations will be jam packed Events and Entertainment will be during the weekend of 29 June to 1 July 2012.
Gordon’s Bay, nestled against the slopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountains on the shores of the magnificent False Bay just 50 minutes from Cape Town becomes a fairy wonderland for children of all ages once a year when we celebrate our “secret season” when the bay is protected from the Cape north-wester wind.
Make sure to visit our enchanted village during this village and join in the celebrations. Come for a day.. spend the weekend..
The Milkwood Trail will be transformed into an enchanting Fairy Forest of twinkling white lights – a delight to all – especially for children. For the romantic (of all ages) a lovers’ bench will be decorated with sparkling lights – an ideal spot to ‘pop the question’!
A gigantic shining snowman will welcome visitors and the beach-front Fun Fair, also decorated in fairy lights, will bring laughter for the whole family. Beachside trees and quaint historic shops and buildings and homes all the way up the mountain will light up with dazzling white lights, creating a wonderful spectacle to be seen from afar.
29 June – 1 July a Carnival atmosphere will be buzzing in Gordon’s Bay
Meandering through the fairyland of lights, couples and families with prams and dogs on leashes will stroll along the beachfront and little streets, browsing through the quaint shops, stopping for a chat and a glass of Gluhwein, hot chocolate, roasted chestnets or delicious ‘food on the go’ from one of the many Food stalls while buskers will perform around each corner.Restaurants and pubs, each with their own party with live bands and musicians, will offer special warming winter fare or, if you really want to dance and party, some of the major festival attractions are:
♦ The Music Fest Marquee, where a wide variety of artists will be performing throughout the entire weekend. The program can be viewed here..
♦ ‘Melt-stock’, a FREE rock concert featuring 6 Bands who know how to rock! The event starts at 2pm and ends at 8pm on Saturday 30th June. The Meltstock Program available here..
♦ Old Harbour and Yacht Club (where the NSRI will exhibit) or..
♦ The Harbour Island Waterfront with its beautiful romantic Harbour Bridge – all decorated in sparkling white lights.
♦ Browse at the Craft Market at the ‘fantasy-painted’ Indigo Backpackers lodge which will run daily from 10:00am until late..
♦ or the intriguing Gordons’ Bay ‘Then and Now’ displays at the historic NG Church where local organ musicians and choirs will entertain.
♦ Fifty exceptional artists will display their work on the Art Route.
♦ and for the very brave, a visit to the Enchanted Ghost House is a must
On Sunday morning, celebrities will lead a ‘Gordon’s Bay for Jesus’ song and praise festival in the Music Fest Marquee led by Richard Loring and Tommy Dell.
