Allegro All-Stars Talent Showcase 2018
Allegro All-Stars Talent Showcase 2018
Allegro Music and Recording Studio, one of the Western Cape’s premier music
schools, are celebrating Youth Day 2018 in style.
The Allegro All-Stars Talent Showcase will see top students perform their musical
skills at the beloved Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West.
The Allegro All-Stars Showcase is set to become a highlight on the school’s calendar
and aimed at nurturing local talent.
“The Western Cape is filled to the brim with talented young musicians. We are lucky
to be part of their musical journey. Some as young as six-years old, are already
showing star qualities. Allegro All-Stars 2018 is their opportunity to perform in a
formal theatre environment, in front of a live audience of family and friends,” says
Michelle Pineda, Allegro’s Principal.
The Allegro School’s approach is to blend studio-based practice, which drills
technical precision, with stage performance skills. The aim is to bring together all the
aspects of musical ability for a well-rounded experience.
“Live performance allows
connection with the audience. It builds confidence and enriches the learning
experience. Most importantly, it brings joy to everyone!” exclaims Michelle.
Music has long since been credited for many health benefits in children. In fact, the
value of music in early childhood development is well documented.
A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity
Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain
development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.(1)
Other benefits include increased mathematical ability and improved social skills,
much needed for school readiness.
Michelle witnesses the positive effects of music on a daily basis. “It is true that ‘music
calms the soul’. Countless times, a mere 30 minutes of music practise can improve
the child’s mood and their ability to bounce back after a difficult day at school.”
She plans to spread this positive experience of music beyond the school. “Our
Upliftment Programme is fledgling but committed”, explains Michelle. She aims to
discover talent beyond the borders of the school’s current catchment area and
include them in future Allegro All-Stars shows. “Our love for our community equals
our love for music. We hope to share it as wide as possible.”
In celebration of National Youth Dag, The Allegro All-Stars Talent Showcase will take
place on Saturday, 16 June 2018 at the Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West.
