What are the basics of meditation?
Create a sacred space for your meditation practice. Keep the space clean and clear of clutter. Make sure the room is well-ventilated taking into consideration during meditation that the body temperature will drop, therefore make sure that you are warm.
To do meditation only requires a willingness to take the time to practice this amazing art – use an affirmation for instance: “I am open to meditation, I trust the process”
By creating this sacred space your body will immediately start going into a meditative state in you practice often in the same place. Basically this sacred space triggers your brain into meditation.
If you share an apartment with others and you are not as lucky as many people to have a special room set aside for meditation, meditate on your bed, in the bathroom or in the garden as long as you meditate. Not having the perfect space must not be the excuse for not meditating at all.
Meditate even if you do not have the perfect space available.
There are many postures to sit in meditation once again experiment with them change the postures from time to time and find the position that is comfortable for you as long as your spine is straight.
Find a meditation technique that works for you and stick to it.
Meditate when you are calm. Sit comfortably and try and keep the spine straight. Your sincere intention to meditate is more than half the battle won.
Don’t force to get results out of your meditation practices, but instead enjoy the journey
Don’t meditate on a full stomach, you might fall asleep. A fruit is perfect as you also don’t want to meditate on a complete empty stomach either.
Make use of a timer this will assist you in being more calm during meditation so that you don’t have to wonder “Is the time over yet?” Start with shorter meditation sessions and increase it gradually to suit you.
If you lose focus during meditation bring your attention back to your breath. Acknowledge thoughts and let them gently drift away and get back to focus. Breath during meditation is very important.
You may burn incense to clear the space but make sure that you don’t do it to close to meditation time as the incense may irritate the senses.
The most important aspect of meditation is to set the intention that you are going to meditate. If you find it hard to concentrate for a long time rather start a meditation in the beginning for ten minutes. It is better to start with a short time than to not do meditation at all. Slowly increase the time as your feel comfortable and as you start getting into it.
Find a meditation that works for you and then stick to it until your mastered it. There are many types of meditation, movement meditation, silence meditation, guided meditation, crystal meditation, color meditation, breath meditation, and visualization meditation. Once again the most important aspect is to Meditate.
Be patient, don’t lose faith. Every new technique in life takes practice and dedication, determination is the key to success. An Olympic athlete practices all the time to achieve the gold medal. Meditation is a skill that you need to practice daily.
There are no right or wrong in meditation. Meditation is different for everyone. As long as you set your intention to meditate. If the feeling is positive you are doing great.
Mornings are the best time to meditate but if you can’t meditate in the morning, meditate at anytime that suits you, as long as you will be undisturbed during that time. Try to meditate at the same time and preferably in your sacred space you set aside for meditation every day.
Complete your to do list before you go into your meditation space so that you won’t constantly think of what you still have to do. Be in the moment.
Keep a journal close by that you can write down insights that might come up for you during your meditation session.
If you are troubled and need an answer go into your sacred space and with meditation seek the inner wisdom of your higher self. We already know the answers to any problem, look within with meditation. With meditation we open ourselves to the endless possibilities, wisdom and abundance of the entire universe.
