Tierkop Hiking Trail – George
It takes you up and under the George Peak, and then across to the overnight hut in a saddle below Tierkop.
This trails starts at the Reserve at the Offices. Drive 3.7km From George towards Oudtshoorn, turn right to Witfontein and right again at the entrance gate to the Outeniqua Nature Reserve. You may park at the Reservation Office. The route ends at the Garden Route Dam near George. You will need to arrange for transport for when you return or alternatively you can walk 4km into town Centre.

End Point: Garden Route Dam via Pepsi Pool to Parking Area

Features: Pine plantations, indigenous forest, fynbos, dam, Pepsi Pool and waterfall
Special Interests: This linear hike lies in the Witfontein section of the reserve. The trail takes you through a variety of vegetation, like pine plantations, mountain fynbos and indigenous forest. You will also have amazing views over George and the coastline.
Prohibitions and hazards: No fires allowed. Plan your hike thoroughly and take water. The weather conditions can change very quickly in the mountains, even if weather is good at lower altitudes. Take a wind- and waterproof anorak and warm clothing even in the summer.
Trail Distance: 30km over 2 days
Day 1: 17,5km (5 hours)
Day 2: 12,5km (3 hours)
Hut Capacity:
Overnight in the Tierkop hut where 24 beds and matrasses are provided in four rooms. No fires are allowed at the hut so it is essential that you bring your own cooking equipment and candles.
