Youngest member of NSRI wants to give back to Station 23
Meet Jané Botha, a 17-year-old dynamo with the heart of a lion and the spirit of a true hero.
She’s not just your average teenager; she’s the youngest member of the Station 23 Wilderness NSRI volunteer rescue crew, fearlessly navigating the waters to save lives.
But Jané is not stopping there, because on the 21st and 22nd of October, from the crack of dawn at 06:00 to the night’s embrace at 18:00, she’s taking on a challenge that will leave you in awe.
Picture this: a 24-hour swim, not in just any pool, but in the waters of determination at the Glenwood House swimming pool. Why, you ask? Because she believes in the power of giving back, and for her, that means supporting the incredible work of the NSRI.
“I’m diving into this 24-hour swim to raise funds for NSRI, an organization that has transformed my life,” Jané explains with a fire in her eyes. “A year and a half ago, I stepped into the world of Station 23 as a trainee crew member, not knowing that this decision would redefine my existence. NSRI became my sanctuary, my family away from home. I’ve forged unbreakable friendships and found mentors whose wisdom I cherish like gold.”
For Jané, NSRI is more than just an organization; it’s a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of unity. “I’ve learned the true meaning of teamwork and the strength we find in unity,” she says, her voice echoing with determination. “Every member of our crew brings unique skills to the table, and together, we are an unstoppable force. NSRI has taught me resilience, the art of collaboration, and the immeasurable value of community and service.”
What fuels Jané’s passion is witnessing the extraordinary bravery and unwavering commitment of her team, who risk their lives to save others at sea. “In the midst of chaos, I’ve seen ordinary people perform extraordinary feats—acts of bravery, selflessness, and compassion,” she shares, her admiration for her NSRI family shining through. “In a world often overshadowed by negativity, NSRI stands as a radiant example of the incredible impact that one organization can make. And I am determined to contribute to this legacy.”
So gear up and get ready to witness a teenage powerhouse making waves, quite literally, for a cause that transcends the depths of the ocean. Jané Botha is not just swimming; she’s inspiring, she’s empowering, and she’s redefining what it means to be a hero.
Get ready to be moved, because this is not just a swim—it’s a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the power of community, and the unwavering belief that together, we can create ripples of change that echo far and wide.
