Madibaz Football Club Makes History
Madibaz Football Club from Nelson Mandela University’s George campus has etched its name in history by securing a spot in the Safa Eden Regional Men’s League. Their journey to this achievement was nothing short of remarkable.
With an impressive record of 13 wins out of 15 matches in the George Local Football Association League, Madibaz Football Club proved their mettle. The weekend play-offs in Mossel Bay brought a fair share of tension, but the team’s consistent form throughout the season ultimately prevailed.
The pivotal moment came in their final showdown against Young Pirates, a match that could make or break their dream of regional football. Initially trailing by a goal, Madibaz rallied with remarkable resilience, scoring three goals of their own to secure a decisive 3-1 victory.
Credit goes to Coach Ntandazo Minquma, who had wisely retained many of the players from the team that finished third in the George league in 2022. Recognizing the need for fresh talent, he also conducted trials for first-year students, adding a new dimension to the squad.
What sets Madibaz Football Club apart is their depth. While many opposing teams rely on their starting lineup, with only a couple of game-changers on the bench, Madibaz boasts a roster with more than enough depth to alter the course of a match. This depth has undoubtedly been their advantage throughout this remarkable journey to regional football success.
