“Rapturous Release: African Crowned Eagle’s Majestic Return”
Last week Wednesday, the Harkerville forest outside Plett witnessed a thrilling moment as the majestic African crowned eagle was released back into the wild, marking the end of an inspiring journey.
The captivating rescue of this magnificent creature took place on Saturday 3 June along the Brenton shoreline in Knysna. Despite an initial unsuccessful attempt involving the NSRI in Knysna on Friday evening, dedicated efforts led to the successful retrieval of the eagle.
Mark Robson, an expert from Raptor Rescue, played a crucial role in ensuring the bird’s well-being. Recognizing the distress the eagle faced after being mobbed by gulls, Robson swiftly took it to a local vet for the necessary care and treatment.
After three days of dedicated recuperation and expert care, the eagle received a clean bill of health. Last week Wednesday, the much-anticipated moment arrived, and the eagle was granted its freedom once again. The atmosphere in the Harkerville forest was electric with excitement as onlookers eagerly watched the majestic bird take flight.
