Protect your family on world Diabetes Day 2019
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY ON WORLD DIABETES DAY 2019
SOUTH AFRICA (October 2019) – World Diabetes Day on 14 November is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign, reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. Every year, the World Diabetes Day campaign focuses on a dedicated theme that runs for one or more years. The theme for World Diabetes Day 2019 is Family and Diabetes.
With the focus still on Family and Diabetes, the Garden Route community will be screened for diabetes at no cost! On Friday, 1 November 2019 Team Cycle 4 Diabetes, led by the founder of C4D Dr Jacques Van Staden, will again turn the very top end of York Street blue to raise awareness around diabetes and to give back to the George community. Dr Van Staden and his team ensure every year that diabetes is firmly in the public eye. During last year’s drive ± 1000 people were screened for Diabetes, and this year the team aims to reach even more people.
The International Diabetes Foundation is raising awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and support network of those affected and promoting the role of the family in the management, care, prevention and education of diabetes. Families are urged to learn more about the warning signs of diabetes and find out their risk of type 2 diabetes. Research conducted by IDF in 2018 discovered that parents would struggle to spot this serious life-long condition in their own children. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to prevent the complications of diabetes and achieve healthy outcomes. All families are potentially affected by diabetes and so awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors for all types of diabetes are vital to help detect it early. The power is in your hands to act responsibly and have yourself AND your loved ones screened for diabetes.
Businesses in George are urged to make use of this opportunity to motivate their personnel to have themselves screened on Friday 1 November 2019. With the support of Algoa FM as media partner, Blitsdruk as printing partner and professional role players such as 4 Life Living Dieticians and De Jager Van Zyl Audiologists the community can expect another professional outreach. From 08:00 to 14:00 diabetes screening will be done by medical professionals free of charge to all members of the public at the very top of York Street. All you have to do is tell your family, friends and colleagues to follow the blue and be screened for diabetes. Protect your family against diabetes!
