THANK YOU GEORGE!
GEORGE (November 2014) – A project is only a big as the heart of the people behind it. When one looks at the way in which the community of George again embraced Pink Trees for Pauline during their 2014 campaign, you cannot but believe that there are still ample good left in society. The people of George worked in unison to raise funds for the cancer communities of George. Now it is time to thank everyone who contributed, whether you donated your time or funds…without the hands and hearts of the George business sector and community Pink Trees for Pauline George would have had no impact.
Behind the scenes tremendous effort was put in to distribute the pink material throughout South Africa. The core of the distribution center for Pink Trees for Pauline is found in our very own town! Anton Le Roux Vervoer, Golden Harvest, Triangle Couriers and Aramex al helped to deliver the material throughout South Africa. No route was too roundabout and no delivery was too much trouble. It is heart-warming that the business sector of George took ownership of the project and contributed in any way possible. The George Business Chamber made communication regarding this year’s project effortless and was a great help. Walk in Doctor sponsored a whopping 1000m material for George and went the extra mile to sell material to the public on their premises.
Each year it is a logistical challenge to cut the material, pack it and sell it to members of the public. Like last year Eden Lions and their enthusiastic members took on this part of the project with military precision. Barbara Hayward of Eden Lions says that during the past two years they have cut and packed over 2000m! E. Coetzee Pharmacy also came on board and their personnel cut, packed and sold a staggering 516m. Mount Hope Hospice and Cansa gave a hand and helped where needed.
When one looks back at what was achieved during the 2013 Pink Trees for Pauline campaign one cannot help to be grateful to each and everybody who contributed then and again showed their support during the 2014 drive. During the 2013 campaign an amount of R70 159.00 was raised. R20 000 was allocated to CANSA, R5000 to Mount Hope Hospice and R20 000 to Cancervive. Glenwood High raised R16 000 of the funds and the whole amount is reserved for the needs of children with cancer. Pink Trees for Pauline received R9159. The beneficiaries of the 2014 initiative is CANSA and Mount Hope Hospice. The total amount of funds raised in George during the 2014 initiative will be calculated at the end of November when the campaign comes to a close.
Anthony J. D’Angelo said “Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.” The care and effort which the community of George put into Pink Trees for Pauline George 2014 was overwhelming. To each and every one who contributed, thank you! Thank you for caring about the cancer community of George!
