Romans sponsor 6th Gourmets & Gourmands
GEORGE (July 2014) – In the words of William Shakespeare “Friends, Romans, countrymen lend me your ears”…we are NOT here to bury Caesar. For a moment we must shine the light on the leading Romans without whom the spectacle in the Carpe Diem Arena on 23 August 2014 will not be possible. The 6th annual Gourmets and Gourmands supported by Hartmans on behalf of Carpe Diem School will take place at Carpe Diem School and behind the scenes the Emperor is cracking his whip. On that night everything will be perfect…it will be an event talked about for seasons to come.
The leading Romans sponsoring this year’s event is Hartman & Sons Butchery, the premier sponsor of this prestigious event for the past two years, and for the second year Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers will bejewel the evening with a unique creation. Founded in 1989, Hartman & Sons started off with a small retail outlet and over the past 25 years has become an integral part of the George community. Today Hartman & Sons is a successful family business involved with charity to the community by donating products to various organizations and to schools in the previously disadvantaged community. They are deeply committed to live their slogan “Quality has no substitute”, and believe it applies to the George community as well, and a “quality” community caters for a “quality” workforce…the Hartmans Team off course!
Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers, jewellers of distinction, will design a spectacular masterpiece to the value of R40 000 which will be auctioned off during this year’s Gourmets & Gourmands. D’Amato Jewellers was originally established in George by master watchmakers Raffaele D’Amato and his son Deryck Nunes in 1957. Today the tradition of superb craftsmanship is carried on by Michél Nunes, third generation master jeweller and designer of note. After the death of his father Deryck in 2008, Michél has been supported in the business by his multi-talented mother, Marlene. Without a doubt Marcus Antonius (aka Mark Anthony) would have loved to put a bid in on the masterfully crafted piece to adorn his beloved Cleopatra with.
Certainly one of the most exciting sponsored prizes of the evening will be the luxury 2 nights charter aboard the Zambezi Queen. Built in the early 1990s, the Zambezi Queen was created to carry its guests on an extended journey from Katima Mulilo down the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers and back. The size of the vessel made navigating difficult and eventually the Zambezi Queen ended up moored along the river bank where it was utilised as a floating hotel to visitors to the Caprivi Region. The ZQ was restored to its former glory in 2008, and fashion designer Jenni Button’s stylish touch is visible in the design of the classic yet contemporary interior. An experience fit for royalty!
Barbara de Angelis said “Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” The Emperor is looking forward to welcome you with open arms in the Arena. Let us never forget that the goal of this feast is to make a difference in the lives of the 282 special needs learners of Carpe Diem School, and we want you to be a part of that.
