NMMU/Investec Grade 12 Accounting Winter School in George
NMMU’s Accounting Winter School to be presented in partnership with Investec at the George Campus for the third consecutive year during the winter holidays is fully subscribed.
Two hundred learners from no less than sixteen schools in the Southern Cape, from as far as Beaufort West, Albertinia, Uniondale, Oudtshoorn, the Plettenberg Bay area, George and surrounds will converge at the picturesque George Campus from 4 – 8 July for an exciting, jam-packed programme of academic and social engagement. The NMMU (George Campus) Principal, Prof.
Quinton Johnson expressed his delight at the continued success of the Accounting Winter School, which attracts the best young minds that are the future of the profession, and wished the learners well for their engagement next week.
After registration and the official welcome by the departmental Head for Accounting Sciences, Mr Sven Wusthoff, learners will be provided with an overview of the week ahead, followed by a series of lectures, tutorial and discussion groups specific to the field of accounting, including working through questions posed in previous years’ Grade 12 Accounting exams. In addition, learners will also receive guidance on how to set goals and manage their time during their preparations for their final Grade 12 exams. They will also discover that Accounting can be fun, and time has also been set aside for some exciting social activities.
Both learners and tutors (mostly senior BCom students) derive exceptional value from the Accounting Winter School. Jessica Chemaly, a 2nd Year BCom Accounting (CA) student and tutor at a previous Winter School in Port Elizabeth had the following to say about her experience of the winter school:
“It was a very impressive week. From the lectures and tutorials to the social programme, we were impressed with the professionalism of everyone. The Winter School provided me with an opportunity to develop my technical and soft skills such as time management, organization and communication. It was brilliant”
This year, learners will also have the privilege of meeting with Mr Andrew Tlou and receiving a lecture by Mr. Setlogane Manchidi, both from Investec’s Corporate Social Investment Department. Furthermore, the Campus Principal, Prof Quinton Johnson, will engage with learners at the closing of the Winter School, which will include the prize-giving ceremony. We are all looking forward to welcoming the 200 learners to the NMMU (George Campus), where leaders for sustainable futures are educated.
