Let’s make Ernst van Dyk SA Sport Star 2014
Ansie Swart, the event director of next year’s Outeniqua Wheel Chair Challenge (OCC), is appealing to Georgians to come forward en masse and support Ernst van Dyk for the title of SA Sport Star of the Year 2014.
At the launch of the competition Fikile Mbalila, minister of Sport and Recreation, said, “SA Sports Awards aims to honour those men and women who fly our country’s flag high.”
Swart said, “We are asking the residents who have taken the OCC under their wing to vote for Ernst. Please SMS the keyword SPORTS followed by A to 34760 at a cost of R1,50 per SMS.”
The late Esther Watson, Shoprite Checkers Woman of the Year 2006, started the OCC 14 years ago and always referred to Ernst as “a George man”.
On Wednesday 15 October the nominees for this year’s South African Sports Awards were announced at the SABC Studios in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. The SA Sports Awards is a partnership between the Department of Sport and Recreation, SASCOC and the SABC. The winner will be announced at a gala dinner at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on 30 November.
The Sport Star of the Year nominees are Ernst van Dyk, Chad le Clos, Portia Modise, Khotso Mokoena, Duane Vermeulen and AB de Villiers.
