Forests for Schools Aims to Create Interest in Nature

A non-profit organization called Forests for Schools, founded and directed by Dr. Rudi Swart, aims to foster a deeper understanding of nature conservation and ecology among South African learners.
During the Wessa Eden annual general meeting, Dr. Swart introduced this organization, which was established in 2021.
To achieve their mission, Forests for Schools visits schools in the Southern Cape region, targeting students between the ages of 12 and 18. They deliver informative talks on ecological topics, with a particular focus on South Africa’s diverse biodiversity. As part of their educational efforts, they engage the students in planting indigenous tree species.
The organization has both short-term and long-term social goals. In the short term, they aim to raise awareness about biodiversity and instill a sense of pride and belonging among the learners. They also strive to cultivate an interest in nature, fostering a lifelong connection with the environment. In the long term, Forests for Schools aims to promote ecological studies and nature conservation careers by raising awareness at the school level about the opportunities available in these fields.
