Fire fighters under top 5 in province
Eden District News – Four fire fighters from the Eden District Municipality had their expertise tested to the limit.
Emile Conrad, Deon Stoffels, Edwin Lottering and David van Niekerk represented Eden at the ‘Toughest fire fighter alive’ competition.
Approximately 40 fire fighting colleagues from the Western Cape region participated in this demanding competition.
Conrad finished first overall and Stoffels second.
Lottering and Van Niekerk were fourth and fifth respectively.
The aim of the competition is to prepare the fire fighters for the national and international competitions for the ‘Toughest fire fighter alive’.
Competitors had to run while carrying a 30m hose and breathing apparatus. They also had to carry various tools and a 90kg dummy through tunnels and climb over a 3m high wall.
