Pomodoro wine and food pairing
Delicious food, great company and excellent wine, the recipe for an amazing time out.
Saturday evening Pomodoro in the Wilderness set the scene for tasting wonderful wines, meeting lovely people and enjoying tasty food.
The ambiance at Pomodoro makes you feel at home the moment you walk inside. The friendliness and professional manner of the staff confirms the great hospitality of this modest yet confirming establishment.
Claudio Nespola and his team made it seems so easy and straight forward, the energy is never ending and one would never have guessed that the wine and food pairing was their second function for the day.
The evening was started with a thick and creamy pea soup with Parma ham followed by Springbok ravioli. Ossobuco, delicious veal shank braised with vegetables, white wine and broth followed the ravioli. Cheesecake served in a glass layered like a parfait, accompanied by ice-cream and chocolate sauce on the side finished the evening of.
The food was complimented by a selection of single vineyard boutique wines from Arendsig in the Robertson valley. Never have I tasted wines and found all of them tasty let alone being impressed by the modest excellence of all of them. When you meet the wine maker and owner Lourens van der Westhuizen it is when you realise why the wines are so awesome.
Do not take my word for it, visit Tipsy Liquor store in Knysna Road, George and sample a few varieties. We started the evening with Chardonnay then Chenin Blanc followed by Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A big thank you to everyone involved who made the evening such a memorable one.
