Honour Our Brave Firefighters 4 May
Venue: York Street
Dates: 04/05/2018 to 04/05/2018
Times: 15:00
Memories of the recent devastating fires that marred the Eden District will be forever etched on the collective consciousness of our community. Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years and at times even their lives.
On Friday, the 4th of May, the world celebrates International Firefighters’ Day where we honour the bravery and commitment of these individuals. Proud Sponsor Oakhurst Insurance, along with the greater George community will recognise the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. We call on the community to support the planned initiatives in which we pay tribute to current and past firefighters for their contributions. The weekend of festivities kicks off at 15:00 on Friday, 4 May, where the grand fleet of fire engines from the participating Fire Departments will be paraded through the streets of George.
People from the entire Eden district are encouraged to dress in red and blue and to show their support as the motorcade with firefighters from the Western and Southern Cape district make their way down York Street. On Saturday, the 5th of May, the firefighting teams will be showing their mettle in a series of simulated activities that they would face daily in the call of duty. Make your way to the Garden Route mall at 10:00 in order to witness these amazing athletes in action.
Commemorative ribbons will be on sale to raise funds on the day. Activities will be concluded with a potjiekos competition among the various firefighting teams and is in aid of those in need. Schools and businesses that would like to get involved in this special day of fun and excitement are encouraged to contact Edith from the George Fire Department on 044-801-6360
