“Rooipoppie” staged at the Arts Theatre
A brand new Afrikaans Musical, ” ROOIPOPPIE” will be staged in the Arts Theatre on Friday 8 and Saturday 9th July. It promises to be an unique and most entertaining experience.
The writer, local Coenie Ritter, cleverly mixed all the old fairy tales like Red Ridinghood; Snowhite; the 3 bears; Goldilocks; the wolf and even a few hobos, into an exciting evening of play and song, with a totally absurd new storyline. The use of a number of the best known Afrikaans folksongs, but with new lyrics, and good acting, contributes greatly to the enjoyment of the musical. Under the hands of the welknown director Elise Meiring, this “new” fairytale is transformed into a thoroughly enjoyable musical. She manages to get the best out of the cast and in the process some lovely new singing voices are discovered.
If you are an older person you will be astonished as to what happened to your childhood fairytale characters and if you are of a younger generation you will discover the charm of characters of an era long gone.
Written specially as part of the Theatre’s 200yr celebrations , Ritter can be proud of his effort and is it a fitting Afrikaans contribution to the festivities. Tickets are only R40 / R30 members / R10 scholars.
Do not miss this evening of great entertainment by making your reservation during weekdays 10:00 to 14:00 at the theatre( 0448743142)
