Average Eden Household has R5,000 worth of used goods gathering dust
Plettenberg Bay, 1 March 2013: Local residents have around R5,000 lying around the house in the form of unwanted goods according to Ralph Young, founder of newly launched website www.2nd-hand.co,za
People are naturally hoarders
“People are naturally hoarders, but they actually don’t realize just how much money is to be made from off loading things they no longer use, says Young, an IT professional who launched www.2nd-hand.co,za during 2012.
Driven by the wonders of the Internet, second hand buying and selling has exploded across the world, and South Africa is no exception. In fact, there are currently over 5 million items for sale on the websites that www.2nd-hand.co,za searches, ranging from a disco ball to a house in Plett going for a cool R64 Mil!
The website searches up to 80 other sites for goods, facilitates buying and selling by SMS, helps consumers list their goods on top local sites – making it easier to buy and sell stuff for free.
The company, who has offices in Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay, are passionate about enhancing the experience of the community making use of the active second hand market in the Garden Route by offering a comprehensive free classifieds service, ranging from selling a house to falling in love.
“No other second hand website allows you to search the competition, which seriously decreases your chances of finding what you are after, unless you are willing to spend hours searching across several sites. Which is why we have done all the hard work for you, so now you can focus on finding the stuff that you need, regardless of which website it is on,” explains Young.
“We also realize that not everyone has Internet or computer access and we have therefore designed an SMS system that allows consumers to send us an SMS on 43166 with the Keyword BUY or SELL and the details of the item they wish to buy or sell – we will then contact you once we find what you are looking for, or list goods on your behalf.”
