Fishing at Morgan’s Bay, Eastern Cape
From the beach at Morgan’s Bay, anglers can catch kob, garrick, white steenbras and an array of smaller fish.
To the west of Morgan’s Bay, there are several excellent fishing spots along the steep cliffs, including Pulpit Rock and Keightley’s Kranz. However, these spots are considered dangerous and are difficult to access, so should not be fished without the company and advice of local anglers. These areas are hot-spots for sharks, which can often be seen swimming below, and which can be caught with a great degree of patience and skill (the locals are experts at both of the above, let them show you how!)
There is also an estuary at the Double Mouth resort in Morgan’s Bay, which is one of the only places on the Eastern Cape where there has been a recorded catch of a river snapper. This makes the estuary a perfect place for light-tackle and saltwater fly-fishermen.
Getting there: from East London, take the R102 going north. Then, take the R349 going to Kei Mouth. Shortly before Kei Mouth, take the Link Road turnoff going into Morgan’s Bay.
