Ginger & Co hits the right note!
From their sensational savoury surprises to their dangerously decadent and delicious deserts, Ginger&Co is a sensory delight.
As one of the few eateries to weather the storm of the 2020/21 Covid-19 pandemic, owner chef’s Estie and Benji Gane have faced these enormous challenges head on and not only beaten the odds… they have flourished!
In the midst of the world’s biggest pandemic, their outrageous decision to move to their current location in Frere Road opposite Selborne Primary was inspired. No longer a closely guarded secret (well maybe not much of a secret), this rather ‘sinful’ eatery is now front and centre, serving tasty and artistically crafted pastries and fare to East London and visiting foodie fanatics.
Open weekdays from 7am – 4pm and Saturdays from 8am – 12.30pm, this is the perfect destination for breakfast, brunch, lunch and of course, for coffee! And if you want dinner, you can grab it here too and serve it to a grateful family at home.
For breakfast you can do the French thing and indulge in a warm buttery Croissant while you relax at the table, read the newspaper and rev your engines with one of their weekly Original Origin Coffee specialities (from exciting places like Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Malawi).
If you are looking for something a little more substantial, you may want to consider their Smoked Salmon on Ciabatta with Cream Cheese, Capers and Avo, presented so beautifully it looks like the Ambrosius Bosschaert 1614 painting, ‘Still Life of Flowers’.
Alternatively you can throw all caution to the wind and indulge in Chocolate Chip French Toast with Bacon! Heck! Dieting is overrated anyway!
For lunch, you can choose to eat inside, outside … or grab it on the go. Everything here is delicious, from the hearty Beef & Chicken Pies, to the Salmon Bagels and Pulled Pork & Coleslaw on Brioche! Leave your willpower at home, bring the appetite and taste some of the best gourmet grub you have tasted in East London… or in fact anywhere!
For tea or coffee, you had better not be diabetic because I warn you, it is dangerous… well and truly dangerous. From Chocolate Chip Croissants to Coffee Cake with Espresso Crumble this is sugar heaven! The beautifully crafted individual desserts and cakes who’s names I cannot identify, are so tempting that you will have a hard time choosing just one. You will definitely have to keep coming back to try them all.
And for dinner, just head to their refrigerators where you can choose from a selection of their pre-cooked meals. Three Cheese Meatball Dip, family size Mediterranean Tomato, Mushroom and Olive Crumble Quiche and Lasagne, Smoked Chicken & Veg are just some of the dinners available. Grab some ciabatta or sourdough bread to serve with it… and hey presto! Dinner is served!
So, when it comes to great food, the perfect cup of Joe, a place to gab with friends, or even to sit on your own and catchup on some work, I highly recommend that your first stop be this unique foodie destination. You cannot come to East London and not give Ginger&Co a try. Why? That would be like going to Italy and not trying the pasta!
