Foodie Favourites on Old Transkei Road
If you live in East London, chances are you drive along Old Transkei Road in Nahoon at least once a week. Did you know that this short stretch of road between Beach Road and Kennington Road is now a little ‘foodie’ destination.
Coffee Shops, breakfast joints and evening dining sit side by side with pubs, take-aways and speciality eateries. So let’s take a look at the diverse offerings available on this 300m stretch of road in the heart of Nahoon.
For breakfast, head to Ciao Bella, an authentic Italian restaurant, offering Italian panini rolls and great coffee from 7am in the morning. They are also open for lunch and dinners (check which days they are open), and we can highly recommend their delicious home made pizza’s.
If you are looking for great coffee and a mid-morning/afternoon treat, head to Idyllic Treats. Relax, grab a cuppa ‘Joe’ and a sweet treat, and enjoy some down time.
For something different, head to Jacks Bagels, a relatively new eatery in East London serving delicious a wide range of bagels including the traditional salmon bagel, the pastrami, fillet, chicken and veggie bagels, Mexican bagels and of course, their Proudly South African bagel.
If you are looking for pub grub, look no further than Cannon’s Pub & Restaurant, where you can get a great burger and a cold one and meet up with your friends.
South Africa’s iconic Steers can also be found on Old Transkei Road, offering a wide range of flame grilled food, hand-cut chips and double thicks for their ardent fans.
But if you want to get it ALL in one place, best you head to Nahoon Fisheries & Deli. This iconic East London landmark offers you the best fish and ‘slap’ chips in town… but that’s not all! Fish or calamari burgers, deep-fried scampi, seafood platters and everything else that swims in the sea can be found here. Pair this with some delicious salads from their salad bar and you have the perfect lunch or dinner. The Deli also offers a wide range of freshly made eats, frozen meals and desserts, making sure that you will find something for everyone, no matter their taste.
So do yourself a favour next time you are hungry and looking for a bite to eat. Head to Old Transkei Road in Nahoon … your taste buds won’t be sorry.
