Wheelchair users make their point
Two weeks ago in a parking lot in Lisbon, wheelchair users and volunteers occupied all the available Non-Disabled spaces in a street to make a point to able body motorists what it is like to have ‘their’ parking places unavailable to them.
On each wheelchair various notes were left like: ‘be right back’, ‘I will only take a moment’, ‘I’m just getting something here’, etc. To really make a point, it would be wonderful to do this at all Shopping Malls with about 300 chairs during the entire Christmas Week to get the point across to the general public, many of whom do not think twice about parking in a disabled parking.
We would like to encourage all East Londoner’s to be more aware of the difficulties experienced by our disabled community and to help them by ensuring that we, who can walk, do not take make their lives even more difficult than they already are, by taking their designated parking.
