Zaneliza: A wave is coming
If you live in East London and enjoy really great local music, you have to be a huge supporter of Msaki (Asanda Mvana), arguably East London’s hottest local talent, making a name for herself nationally.
Almost a year after we wrong our 1st article on Msaki, she is on the verge of recording her first album … Zaneliza: A wave is coming. The following was taken directly from Msaki’s facebook page on 04 January 2015.
Allow me to let you in on a conversation I am having with myself:
Q: Am I making an album?
A: Yes
Q: Do I have any special funding for it other than money saved from gigs and EP sales last year?
A: Nope
Q: So how will I pay for it because albums are expensive?
A: Well, that’s where it gets interesting: I am expecting people who have been to my shows, who have heard my EP, who have expressed a keenness for this album to exist to PRE BUY it.
Q: Oh cool, How does that work?
A: Well, like most orders… you pay now and you get it later. You decide whether you trust the ‘provider and the upcoming product’ and make a decision about parting with your money. (You might also need a kind of pre-view: Please see video attached)
Q: What does a pre- order mean for an an independent artist that might not have access to a massive budget ? (actually them budgets be getting rather small)
A: Other than actually enabling me to make the work and having your contributions as part of my story you give me a freedom to work the way I would like to, with who I would like to work with with.
There are many other perks that come with pre-buying. Let me tell you about one.
Pledging R600 means you will be in our live recording session on the 12th of January and be in a video we are shooting that evening. You are joining the band for dinner that night enjoying food made by the home restaurant queen of East London, Ruzelda Van Dyk. This ALSO includes the album when it is ready and a ticket worth R100 to the Album Launch/ Art Exhibition in March. Its available to only 10people.
You do the math:
album + live show including behind the scenes experience + dinner + launch/exhibition = not R600. Ya’ll get the point right?

* We are very excited that the orders have started coming coming in.
NOTE: First 100 people to pre-buy will see heir names in my album sleeve because I mean like… Thanx! ( saves you having to see a pic of me cuddling my guitar. who needs that?!)
* We start recording the 2nd Phase, next week so get pledging my people!
* We even received our first pledge for R1000. Thank you for the support.
LETS GO!
