Vincent Station Furniture now serving coffee with their quirky funky junky!
I have to admit I am a self confessed addict of shows such as American Pickers, Storage Wars and Salvage Dawgs and anything to do with rescuing things and upcycling… that has to be the reason why I find Vincent Station Furniture one of the quirkiest and most fun shops to visit in our city.
Owner and character Sharon Cowley has created a banquet of (in her own words), Vintage – Funky – Junky! This is not a shop, rather an experience to be savoured slowly, so that you don’t miss out on all the little unique items, stuffed in a suitcase here, propped up on a dresser there, or simply hanging randomly from the ceiling. The shop is filled to the brim, and the excess overflows out onto the sidewalk in an ever changing flow.
There is no doubt, she has an eye for the beautiful, the fun and sometimes even, the completely random… making her shop an exciting tour through rooms crammed with possibilities. Everything you see tells a story, evokes a memory or just outright makes you laugh. Why would you not want to spend YOUR time (and money) there!
Sharon has morphed this store from a relatively standard furniture shop (and I use the word standard lightly) into an ‘event’, which is the only way I can actually put my finger on it. There is old, there is new, their is good taste, and then some ‘not so good taste’… making the entire experience a feast for the eyes and a torch for individual creativity.
Her Petite Rouge Vintage Chalk Paint has started a revolution and her monthly French armour painting classes are extremely popular and well supported, as are her many regulars who choose a piece of ‘previously loved furniture’ and some ‘Petite Rouge’ and go about turning their chosen ugly duckling into a swan.
And now Sharon has added a tiny 2 table (8 chair) coffee stop (not a full shop) on a quaint little veranda outside, crammed to the gills with nostalgic goodies and amusing paraphernalia to keep your eyes entertained while you relax with a cup of cappuccino and a decadent slice of cake. It is not unusual to see businessmen in their suits with a laptop sitting here working, surrounded by Marilyn Monroe, Top of the Pops Records and bales of hay!
Don’t be fooled by the name. Vincent Station Furniture is so much more than just a furniture store. If you love your vintage with a bit of quirk… why not pop around for a cuppa and a gander and enjoy all the goodies on show… I can highly recommend it!
