Valentine’s Day the Singleton way!
Ah, Valentine’s Day. The time of year when smug couples gaze lovingly at one another over a candlelit dinner whilst singletons cast filthy looks at them… or do they?
Perhaps you’re single and loving it, more than happy being by yourself? This is not altogether a strange phenomenon surprisingly enough, and we salute everybody who is more than comfortable going solo.
That said, this Valentines we are going to explore the different options available to you when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day with your buddies of the same sex. There are many, and what’s more, they are LOADS of fun! What ever would the East London singleton scene do without us to guide you?
Girls Night In
Yep, it’s time to round up the ladies and have yourself a memorable night, without even leaving the house! So between yourselves, organise whose house would be best suited for your party, and read on, because we’ve already planned your night for you…
Wine Tasting
Fling open your front door to all your favourite single girl friends, but don’t let them turn up empty handed. Oh no, make absolutely sure they make good use of both their hands and get them to bring a bottle (or two, or three) with them, the perfect entrance fee to an otherwise free event.
NB. There are no spit buckets at this ‘Wine Tasting’ party!
Movies
No girls night is ever complete without a ‘chick flick’ or two. We have offered two ‘movie night in’ themes, depending on the girls moods:
For all the girls currently hating on men, there were many options but we narrowed it down to some all-time classics: Fatal Attraction, War of the Roses and Basic Instinct. If you’re hating, these are ideal. We do, however, suggest that none of the activities carried out in the movies are tried at home.
If you’re not currently hating but just happy to be single and appreciate a bit of eye candy every now and then, might we suggest the following movie line-up for some instant gratification: 50 Shades of Grey, Magic Mike and well, anything featuring Johnny Depp really…
Party Games
Oooh, such fun, especially for the men-haters out there. Darts is always a party favourite but our version involves a dart board, a photograph of your favourite ex and a good aim. Yeah, now you are getting the picture. Or you could play ‘Pin the Tail on the Ex’ (ladies, all you need to do is insert the photo!)
Food
Who really cares about food when there’s wine? Seriously though, being sensible ladies and knowing that good wine requires good soakage, we do recommend that you be practical and eat. So here is a quick meal planner for you:
Starters
While men may choose oysters (who knows why?) … we recommend chocolate.
Main Course
Those same men would probably opt for a big, juicy piece of steak & chips. We choose chocolate.
Dessert
Knowing men, they’d probably go for Dom Pedros or beer floats. Us ladies, we choose chocolate… with a good dessert wine that is.
Music
No party is ever complete without the right music to set the mood. While the men would probably be happy with a karaoke machine and sounds of their own out of tune renditions, us respectable and very delectable singleton ladies are honour bound to play the classics.
We choose to sing along to Chaka Khan belting out I’m Every Woman; Aretha Franklin and The Eurythmics telling it how it is with Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves and of course, it wouldn’t be a party if you didn’t have this little number blasting out. Gotta love ABBA. Sing along with it ladies, you know you want to!!
Hmmm, Teddy bears and mushy valentines cards… OR… wine and best friends? You decide… 😉
Boy’s Night Out
Ah, men. You are, it has to be said, very easily pleased, and there are many ‘singleton’ men out there who are extremely happy with their current lot. For you guys out there, might we suggest the following Agenda for the perfect, very sensible and responsible boy’s night out:
- Drinking beer, with your buddies.
- Watching Rugby, with your buddies.
- Drinking more beer, with your buddies.
- Going to Hooters, with your buddies.
- Score! Hopefully without your buddies.
- Drinking some more beer, with your buddies.
Going home, pass out, sleep like a baby without a nagging girlfriend/wife on your case!
So there we have it Singletons, a guide… and a pretty awesome one at that if we may say so ourselves – to being single on Valentine’s Day. Might we just add that whether you are male or female, it’s up to you to drink responsibly, so rather than drive on your night in/out, claim your friend’s couch, it’s a much safer option.
It’s quite alright, I just adore my own company.
