Teachers pledge to be doused as Grens learners collect water
The collection of water for drought-stricken areas is the initiative of the prefects and the teacher-in-charge, Mrs Scheun. As an incentive, teachers agreed to have water poured over them once certain targets were reached. This opportunity to see wet teachers certainly encouraged learners to bring water! Many parents and businesses also came on board and the support has been overwhelming. The final target was 2000 litres. The 14 teachers will be held to their pledges and doused at the school at the end of the day on a patch of lawn to ensure the water is not wasted. The school is grateful to First National Battery who offered to transport the water to Smithfield. In addition, First National Battery will match the amount of water collected by the Grens learners.
The photos show learners with a fraction of the bottles of water.
