Our recommended New Years Resolutions for 2019
If 2018 was tough, 2019 looks like it might be one for the record books! Here are our recommended ‘New Years Resolutions’ to help you get through the challenging year ahead!
1. Make a Budget and stick to it!
The economy is heading for tough times and now more than ever, we need to understand our spending habits and plan and structure the way forward. Write down your budget, make sure everyone knows it… and stick to it! Be sure to budget for those little extra’s to make sure the squeeze does not hurt too much.
2. Forgive yourself
We spend far too much time worrying about things we have or have not done. It is in the past. Forgive yourself and move on.
3. Refine and rejoice in your friendships
Good friends are the best investment you can make. Dump the negative ones that drain you and surround yourself with those who support you and feed your soul and you will be able to support them in return.
4. Reduce your screen time
Cellphones, tablets, laptops, computers and televisions are ‘life’s junk food’ and are fattening and bad for your health. Take a break… look up… and live a little. You will be surprised at all the wonderful things you are missing while looking at your screens.
5. Don’t dwell on what others think of you
Don’t worry what others think of you… in reality… truth be told, they are not thinking about you at all. The most important thing is what you think of yourself… so focus on yourself and make yourself someone you can look up to and respect.
6. Start Saving
Saving is more about the habit and the discipline than it is about the amount. Start saving a small amount each and every month. As the saying goes… ‘Look after the cents and the rands will take care of themselves’!
7. Give up something you love for a short period
The great thing about giving up something you love for a short period of time is that there is an end in sight. Doing this each year teaches you that you are in control of your own actions and that you will not fall to pieces if deprived of your vices for a short period of time.
8. Get involved
Find a cause you are passionate about and get involved. Instead of always taking… experience the empowering joy of giving and making a difference!
9. Don’t focus on the negative
Make a concerted effort to stop focusing on what is wrong, but rather focus on what is right and what you can do to fix the things that are not right. A positive focus attracts positive energy and enables you to change the future for the better.
10. Find your sense of humour
2019 is set to be a very challenging year for all of us. Financial hardships, political uncertainty, climate challenges and everyday pressures will test all of us.
Forget drugs, alcohol and anti-depressants… a good old belly laugh is natures cure and is the best mood enhancer available on the market. When life is tough and throws up challenges… find the humour in the situation and all the mountains you see will soon look like molehills.
