Mountain Biking Trails in & around East London

There are many mountain biking trails the enthusiast to enjoy in the greater East London area.  If mountain biking is your thing, why not get out into the fantastic East London outdoors and try one of the following trails, right here on our doorstep:

Three Silo’s MTB Trail

Follow the N6 for 8.5km – turn right just after the boat shop. At T-junction turn right.  Left into Smythelands Road.  3 Silo’s sign will be 400m down the road on your LHS.  Enter the driveway and park in the designated parking area.  Trail start is approx 300 m down the road behind the house.

2 Swans MTB Trail

Travel North on the East Coast Resorts road.  Turn right into Schafli Road.  The entrance to
2 Swans is 1,5km down this road.

Diesel Hill MTB Trail

From Dorchester Heights, travel up Two Rivers Drive to the top.  On the LHS you will see a bright yellow bollard blocking off a jeep track entrance into the bush.  That is the start of the trail. 

Lavender Blue MTB Trail

Travel West on Bonza Bay Road.  Take the Old Gonubie Road at the traffic circle outside the entrance to Nompumalalo.  Continue on this road for approx 1km.  Lavender Blue is on your RHS. The start of the Cycle track is on your LHS as you drive into the parking area.

Garmin Challenge 35km Route

Take the N2 towards King Williams Town.  Approx 8km out of East London, take Nahoon Dam offramp and turn right towards the dam.  Follow the road for 6km into the Dam complex and follow the signboards to the picnic area.

Travel East on Bonza Bay Road until you reach the traffic circle outside Major Square Shopping Centre.  Turn left into Beaconhurst Drive and continue all the way down until you see the dead end in front of you.  Turn left into Quenera Drive (the last street).  Park on the corner. 

Buffalo Challenge 07 Mountain Bike Race Route

Take the N2 North to Mthatha.  After 9km, take the Beacon Bay off-ramp to the left.  At the top of the off-ramp turn left.  Turn left again to enter the Gonubie Farmers Hall Grounds.

Cwebe Nature Reserve (The Haven) MTB Trail

Difficulty   Not technical at all.  Rewarding route for beginners.

Take the N2 to Mthatha.  56km North of iDutywa or 37km South from Mthatha take the turnoff East.  Continue for 70km following the Cwebe Nature Reserve and The Haven sign boards.

Hempels Farm and Horse Shoe Valley Mountain Bike Trails

Take the North-East Expressway (R72) going North.  The R72 will crosses over the N2.  Before it becomes the N6, turn West onto Wyse Avenue.  Turn right at the T-Junction with Old Transkei Main Road.  This road eventually becomes Smythelands road.  This route starts at the junction between Smythelands and Two Rivers Drive.
