East London personalities pledge support for Slipper Day!
For the last twenty-eight years, the Reach for a Dream Foundation (RFAD) has been making dreams come true for children between the ages of 3 and 18, children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
For children faced with such diagnosis, hopes and dreams for the future might not take precedence in their lives. The Reach for a Dream Foundation aims to restore that hope, fulfilling dreams and encouraging belief that tomorrow is worth fighting for.
The Foundation carries out wonderful work all over South Africa and well-supported fundraising events are held throughout the year.
One of Reach for a Dream’s largest fundraising campaigns is Slipper Day which, this year, is taking place on 5th August 2016. The idea of the campaign is for anybody and everybody to buy a R10 sticker, taking the Foundation one step closer to making a child’s dream a reality. With Reach for a Dream able to fulfill one dream per 500 stickers, your support and involvement is paramount. And of course, as the name of the campaign suggests, you also get to wear your slippers to work or school that day. Imagine the comfort and coolness of that!

Here in East London there are many awesome people who have already shown their support for the Slipper Day campaign and the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Folk who not only jumped at the chance to wear their favourite slippers as they go about their day, but who are also very excited to be involved and help in any way they can.
We spotted nine well-known East London people who have been getting seriously comfy in their slippers lately. You are sure to recognise many of these folk, but the question is… who wore them best?!
Whoever you decide looks most awesome in their slippers, they are all fantastic sports who have pledged their support for the Reach for a Dream Slipper Day campaign. Now, what about you…? Get your stickers today from any Wimpy or Pick n Pay, call the Reach for a Dream Foundation office on 043 735 1823 or email Liezel directly. Get involved and help make a child’s dream come true!
Terry Flynn
Terry is the Assistant Curator of the Ann Bryant Art Gallery, an artist in his own right and moreover, a legend with a HUGE heart! How does Terry pull off the flamingos? What do you think? Personally I think his next masterpiece might just feature our pink feathered friends!

Zane Flanagan
The lovely Zane is best known as the Manager of The Guild Theatre, the man responsible for bringing so much talent to the stages of East London. He is also known as somebody rather of fond of both flamingos and ladybirds, so much so that he just couldn’t decide who would look best on his feet!

Steve Meise
Songwriter and drummer for Can of Worms, guitar teacher at Legends and well-known Potter, Steve just loves monkeying around, hence his choice in slipper wear!! What do you think? Does the dreadlocked dude get your vote for wearing the monkeys so well?

Jason Gladwin
Uber-talented singer/songwriter and guitarist Jason also has a passion for pink flamingos, his excitement so great that he jumped up on the furniture and started rocking out with his air guitar. Keep an eye out for these same flamingos, they might just make an appearance on stage with him soon at a venue near you!

Emmanuel Aboayge
Emmanuel, otherwise known as E-Man, is a well-known hip-hop artist and the Creative Director and Founder of Dynisty Entertainment. His talent is huge, as is his heart and, despite ladybirds not really being that popular in the hip-hop world, Emmanuel ROCKS them and I think he might just start a new trend!

Marc Morrell
You know your Pastor’s a legend when you spot him wearing flamingos on his feet AND ladybirds on his hands! I mean really, have you ever seen another Pastor anywhere near as cool as Marc?! The ladybird hand warmers might not work so well on a Sunday morning but I am fully expecting to see those flamingos make an appearance at Church one of these days!

Bob Norris
Bob recently swapped his tekkies for slippers and I have to say, I think this could be the one and only time I could possibly beat the Eastern Cape Parkrun Director in a race! And if you happen to see Bob in a Parkrun accompanied by these beautiful ladybirds any time soon, do take a pic and send it in to us!

Kerry Hiles
Singer, actress, voice over artist and bassist Kerry looks so beautiful in her slipper wear and she was incredibly fond of the ladybirds… rumour has it that it was a battle to get her to part with them for Bob to borrow! Awesome to see a feminine touch brought to Slipper Day!

Gary Ndlovu
Gary is quite the man in the music industry, heading up Legends Contemporary School of Music and being a musician and sound engineer extraordinaire too. Looks like he loved the ladybirds as well, as seen here, serenading them with a beautiful tune on the keyboard…
