The Miriam Makeba Centre of Performing Arts, East London
The Miriam Makeba Centre of Performing Arts in East London, is home to the University of Fort Hare’s Department of Music.
The Centre is named after the legendary South African singer and anti-apartheid activist Miriam Makeba, who is famous world wide for her hit songs Qongqothwane (The Click Song) and Pata Pata.
Providing East London with a public performance venue and professional recording facility, this venue is fronted by the former Missions to Seamen building, where sailors would visit for an evening meal and Christian recreation, when docked at the Port of East London.
