The African Bird of Prey Sanctuary, shows & tours
Driving down the dirt road, you don’t realise the amazing experience you’re about to have. Make sure that you visit when there’s a flying display! Some of these birds come so close to you that you can see the detail of every feather and feel the breeze against your skin as they fly past.
There are so many types of birds in this sanctuary, I hardly know where to begin. It’s also possibly because I need to pull out my notes as my knowledge and memory it seems is very limited these days. Here goes, there were Bateleur Eagles, Tawny Eagles, Verreaux’s Eagles, Crowned Eagles, Marial Eagles, Burrowing Owls, Pearl-spotted Owlets, African Scops Owls … really too many to mention here, why not go visit and then you’ll meet them all first hand? My favourite amongst the caged birds was the Marsh Owl, as I came closer he seemed to blow himself up and make a strange noise.
Gallery & Curio Shop
There’s a gallery where you will find unique pieces of African art. There are crafts if you are just looking for a memento. Then there’s hats, shoes, slops and just about everything you’d expect to see at a tourist shop.
Kestrel Café
The garden tables and chairs have a great view of the surrounding area. Here you can have something light to eat, a burger or maybe a toasted sandwich, to see you through the rest of the day.
