Mariannhill Monastery
The Mariannhill Monastery is a well known tourist attraction and the tea garden is frequented by locals. It was founded in 1882 and once the biggest Trappist monastery in the world. The cathedral, built of red face-brick made nearby is Romanesque in style. The Gatehouse displays a Victorian influence and the complex is worth a visit to view the craftsmanship. The Basilica, the church of the monastery, is marked by a tower.
A visit to the monastery is free to the public, however donations are welcome. There is a curio shop and a tea garden.
