Day Trip to Scottburgh
If you like to spend many hours baking on the beach, then this day trip is your idea of heaven. Scottburgh is the destination, or to be more precise Scottburgh beach is where this day trip takes you. There is a short detour for the bird watchers amongst us.
Advice: Plenty of sunblock!
Distance: You will travel about 120km, leaving Durban from Spaghetti Junction.
T.C. Robertson Nature Reserve
Day Trip Directions: Head South on the N2 and take exit 110 – Dududu, (R102) Scottburgh. Turn left at the stop – R102, Scottburgh. At the T-juction, turn right towards Scottburgh. Go over a bridge and you will notice the nature reserve on your right.
T.C. Robertson Nature Reserve, situated on the bank of the Mpambanyoni River, provides the ideal bird watcher’s experience. There are trails to walk along; you should be able to spot the African Fish-Eagle, the Blacksmith Lapwing, weavers, sandpipers and many other local species.
Scottburgh Beach
Day Trip Directions: As you exit the T.C. Robertson Nature Reserve, turn left and then almost immediately right into George Crookes Street (Scottburgh North). Turn left into Cordiner Street and at the T-junction turn left.
The beach and pools are ideal for summer fun. Overlooking the beach are restaurants with sea view decks. There’s live music to liven things up on Sundays.
South Coast Ultra City
Day Trip Directions: On your way home to Durban, take exit 124 – South Coast Ultra City. Here you can buy a souvenir at one of the stalls filled with African art and home decor.
