A walk through Springside Nature Reserve in Hillcrest
In Springside Nature Reserve you will find KwaZulu-Natal Sanstone Sourveld – classified as an endangered vegetation type. The Springside Nature Reserve has one of the last remaining relatively unspoilt areas of Sourveld Grassland in Hillcrest. Here you will also find 246 wild flower species, 173 bird specis, 75 tree species, 11 mammal species and 10 reptile species.
Guided Walks
Twice monthly, the public can join guided walks through Springfield Nature Reserve. Bird walks are the 2nd Wednesday of the month and general interest walks take place on the second Sunday of the month. The walks start at 8:30am, except in summer time when the bird walks start at 7:30am. For more information contact Sue on 031 765 6809.
SEEP – Springside Eco-Education Programmes
Specialised programmes and guided walks at Springside Nature Reserve are offered to scholars, garden clubs, churches and other interest groups. For more information contact Anne on 084 682 1580.
Springside Nature Reserve’s address
You will find Springside Nature Reserve in Springside Road, Hillcrest. From Old Main Road, turn right into Stonewall Road and then right into Springside Road. The Nature Reserve will be on your left.
