A history of shipping at the Port Natal Maritime Museum
The Port Natal Maritime Museum overlooks the harbour. There are two ships on display, the Ulundi (built in 1927) and the JR More. You can walk through these ships and inspect the engine room, living quarters, kitchen and all the other nooks and crannies on a ship. Children enjoy exploring the ships.
There is information about Durban’s seafaring history. There are facts and artifacts dating back to 1838. You will find information about the siege in 1842, how the 1879 Anglo Zulu War affected shipping in Durban and the ‘Lady in White’.
