Durban High School Badminton legend returns from Algeria!
Durban High School Badminton star, Reneshan Naidoo recently travelled to Algeria as part of the SA U19 team which consisted of 8 players, to participate in the Cup of Nations Tournament, which is a great achievement for Reneshan and DHS alike!
On the day of arrival into Algeria, the SA team faced a very strong Nigeria and unfortunately lost 4-1, but this loss was a minor shortfall as the next game was the mixed doubles game where Reneshan Naidoo and Leeann De Wet of the SA team took the win and thus defended their winning title from Mauritius in 2011.
During the week of the exciting tournament, the SA team were on a winning streak and strived to put all they had into the tournament resulting in wins against Seychelles, Botswana and Egypt with the score being 5-0 for all the games.
After SA’s win over Algeria in the Semi-finals, it was on to the finals where they were to play Nigeria for a second time. Reneshan said that “it was a challenging match, but South Africa came out victorious, beating Nigeria 3-2!”
South Africa were crowned the champions once again and sustained their title from 2011 as All Africa Champions. “I feel very proud to have been part of the team that did it for SA,” said Naidoo.
DHS are extremely proud of Reneshan as he is an achiever both academically as well as sporting and they commend him on his success!
