Ugu South Coast Tourism Hosts South African Tourism Speed Marketing Events
Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) is hosting the annual South African Tourism (SAT) speed marketing initiative with the first session held at San Lameer on Wednesday, 11 September. Through this platform, local SMMEs from various sectors of the tourism industry, accommodation, tour operators and tour guides among them, were given a platform for exposure to a bigger market. These stakeholders were able to engage directly with high-profile buyers with access to an international audience. The buyers included some 15 travel agents and tour organisers from across the country who target the global tourism market. Also in attendance were representatives from SAT, the Grading Council of South Africa and USCT. CEO of USCT, Phelisa Mangcu, who praised the success of the first session, explained USCT’s new strategic direction to the audience.
She said: “We are proactively positioning the KZN South Coast in the global tourism space. We want to be a ‘top-of-mind’ destination.”
The strategy involves developing the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) tourism, marketing KZN South Coast as a film destination, and promoting the many agri-tourism initiatives on offer. The region is also becoming in-demand as a host for major outdoor, sporting and leisure events, one of which is the South Coast Fever MTB & Trail Run Series, concluding on Sunday, 22 September at Lake Eland Game Reserve. There will be a further two speed marketing sessions hosted at Shelly Beach on Thursday, 12 and Friday, 13 September at Scottburgh.
