LOVE AND RESPECT – COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECT WITH DANIYEL BERRY
Daniyel Berry, the owner of Style Me, a Durban Based image consultancy, recently visited underprivileged residents in the Lamontville area where, to celebrate the month of love, she spoke to the young and the old about love and respect. Daniyel, has been helping to uplift communities in the greater Durban area for the last three years with a Learn to Earn project whereby the children earn tokens by doing well at school and then use these tokens to “buy” clothing or food donated by Daniyel and her network of clients, colleagues and friends. Each token allows them to buy 2 items of clothing. She gave her audience some life changing tips on how to dress appropriately when going for job interviews or on social occasions. After her talk, students gathered around the clothes to choose what they wanted.
The Learn to Earn project is supported by the faith based NPO COPT Trust (Community Outreach Program Trust). Says Daniyel, “My goal is to carry out 3 projects a year which gives us enough time to accumulate clothing. The next project will be in June when we will do a day for the young girls educating them on skin care, sponsoring sanitary pads and donating bra’s. I think educating them on how to do breast examinations will be key as well as how to dress appropriately.”
How do people donate items of clothing and food?
The drop off is at Cafe 1999 in Silverton Road, Musgrave. They can also give to Daniyel directly. Contact her on daniyel@styleme.co.za
