Running with Regents
The Regent Harriers has a history dating back to 1960. Runners from all over Durban meet in the mornings for a run and anybody can join. The group that meets is so large and diverse that you are sure to find someone who runs as fast or slow as you.
The most popular training days are Tuesdays and Fridays when a different 10 kilometer route is announced every time. The runners meet on the corner of Broadway and Kensington in Durban North at 5am for a 5:15am start. The route is announced before 5:15am and somehow – even if you don’t know the area – everybody finds their way back to their cars.
On Wednesdays the runners meet at La Lucia Virgin Active (4:55am for a 5am start) and run between 12 kilometers and 14 kilometers to Umhlanga and back.
Thursdays is a tough hill run; the same 8 kilometer route is run every Thursday. It starts at 5:15am sharp on the corner of Broadway and Kensington…be warned, this route is not for the weak.
On Saturdays you can choose from two 16 kilometer routes. One run starts 5:15am at Splashes in Glenashley. Another run starts at 5:30am at the Hypermarket in Waterkant Road (at the garage).
